Civil War Living History WeekendSymposium and Civil War Living History programs The 143rd anniversary of Battle of Forks Road reenactment took place on the museum’s historic site, the original battlefield of the final fight for Wilmington. Held in conjunction with the Cultural Heritage Museum's US Colored Troops Symposium, the Museum's third annual event featured encampments, artillery and cavalry demonstrations, workshops, storytellers, lectures, period costumes and children’s games. For more information about the US Colored Troop Symposium, visit their website here. Area educators attended the weekend's events. Seminar topics included the Underground Railroad, NC USCT Battles, Black Spy Network, the Wilmington Campaign, Marketing African American History and Culture, Black Sailors in the Union Navy, USCT Genealogy, and special guest, William Gould IV, USCT descendant and author of "Diary of a Contraband". New Hanover County teachers received CEU credits by participating in the weekend’s workshops. The weekend was presented in collaboration with the Cultural Heritage Museum, the Bellamy Mansion Museum and Halyburton Park. Support services provided by the City of Wilmington.
