JAZZ @ THE CAM Series Stardust “An Evening of Romance” In partnership with the Cape Fear Jazz Society September 2011 – April 2012 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm Individual seats: CAM/CFJS Members: $7.00, Non-members: $10.00, Students: $5.00 with valid ID Stardust performs setting a romantic mood to get you ready for Valentine’s Day*. Stardust is a sensational jazz sextet comprised of some of the area’s most talented musicians, Laura McFayden (vocals), Jim McFayden (bass), Jack Krupicka (piano and vocals), David Tyson (guitar, trumpet and vocals), Rich Zimmerman (saxophone) and Dave DiMuro (drums) offer “An Evening of Romance” The songs performed will include “The Look of Love”, “The Very Thought of You”, “At Last” and of course, “My Funny Valentine”. Stardust is well known for their superb jazz vocals and instrumentals. Bring someone special, sit close in the soft lighting and enjoy the romantic sounds of Stardust! | 7th Annual Civil War Living History Weekend | 02-25-2012 through 02-26-2012 |
Reenactors, Battle of Forks Road skirmish both days, sutlers, period music, 2nd Annual Ghost Walk with Halyburton Park and more. The weekend’s activities also include an opening ceremony on Sat. Feb. 25 10:30 am with Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo, New Hanover County Commissioner Jonathan Barfield, Dr. Chris Fonvielle, historian, UNCW and Malcolm Beech, 37th US Colored Troops Infantry and President of the Cultural Heritage Museum in Kinston, NC. The Cameron Art Museum commemorates the 147th anniversary of the Battle of Forks Road on the museum's historic site with two days of family fun offering a look into the daily routine of soldiers during the Civil War. Confederate, Union and U.S. Colored Troop (USCT) reenactors including the Ohio 5th and 37th USCT Infantries and Battery "B" artillery provide a glimpse into the camp life of soldiers in the 1860s. The day includes infantry and artillery demonstrations; battle sites walking tour with Dr. Chris Fonvielle; fashions of the era and a program discussing daily family life when the men went to war by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Cape Fear Chapter 3; music of the era; artisan demonstrations, and period games and art activities for families. Visitors will also be able to explore CAM’s exhibitions for free including "Civil War Era Drawings from the Becker Collection" (on view Feb. 3 – May 6, 2012). This site is where Major General Robert F. Hoke made his last stand against Union soldiers comprised primarily of U.S. Colored Troops in the final fight for Wilmington on February 20, 1865. Sat.
